Work on HGC’s original course layout was started in 1893 by one of Britain’s earliest and most prolific course designers, Tom Dunn, a Scotsman who was part of golfing royalty at that time, a contemporary of the likes of Old Tom Morris. Dunn’s original layout has undergone major and minor changes during more than 125 years, but the course has long been renowned as one of the most challenging nine holes in England.
