Meet the Pros

Marie Martindale

Head Teaching Professional

I am a former Ladies European Tour player, WPGA champion and English and British schools champion (I was Marie Allen then!) who is now dedicated to teaching golfers of all ages and abilities at HGC.

My philosophy to instruction is to ensure that the teaching fits the player. So, lessons are a mixture of fun and motivation as well as technical and comprehensive – it’s all about what you need!

As a fully-qualified PGA professional, I teach on the course studying clients play individual holes or in a teaching bay working on a particular aspect of the game. Only one thing is constant – my support for you via the latest video teaching and analysis techniques with CoachNow and SkyTrak. By using these modern methods, player and coach are always connected.

And, with these apps, you can study the videos I take of your swing any time, plus there are my notes attached to the photos of you during the lesson. CoachNow means we don’t always need to be on the course together! You can send me a video or photograph of your swing from anywhere in the world and I can send back some coaching advice directly to you!

For me, it’s all about allowing clients to enjoy improving and to look forward to each lesson.

So, if this sounds like the golf coaching that you want, then call, text or email me right away. My prices start at £30 for a single tune-up lesson and I also offer club re-gripping and repairs; gap testing; and club fitting.

I hope to hear from you soon… and enjoy your golf!

Jon Laycock

Teaching Professional

I am Jon, I am 47 years old and have been playing golf since I was 5.

A career in Hospitality Management (latterly Soho House) has taught me so much; learning to manage, teach and coach an array of different people from different cultures. This in tandem with playing and coaching sports (mainly football and golf) has given me a clear direction that it is time to put it all together and become a full time Golf Coach.

As a golfer my game is still a work in progress and a journey of discovery, but I have always held a handicap between 1 and 4. I like to create the right base in my own game and walk the walk; sharp routines; good course management; and etiquette. I have even won a few decent things along the way so understand how to make  the most of all components of your game.

While I am still in the early days of my coaching career, I retain a confidence that I can help golfers of any standard improve their game using solid technique, good skills and core values. I’m also confident that I can do this while always  maintaining positive and energetic relationships with clients, whether they be  adults or kids. I have just completed my WGTF Level 1 and 2 Certificates and am close to achieving Level 3.

I like to teach as much on the Course as at the range as in the end it gives a better understanding to both client and coach what the right direction and starting points are before making the right plan.

As well as teaching experienced golfers I also love working with beginners and kids (channelling my inner 8 year old!) so I feel comfortable working in most situations. I have my DBS checks and  Safeguarding certificates available on request.
